No fun feeding calves in blizzard

As mother nature socked it to us again I had just a wonderful time feeding calves in a blizzard last night. NOT!!!! It took me a little longer as you can't walk as fast in the snow and walking against the wind. I tried to look at the bright side and thought well the neighbors (Horsens) have more calves outside than I do so they would be outside longer than me.

I didn't even get late for work this morning. Thanks to Jerry plowing out our road or I would have never made it out until the plow came. Jerry wore his snowmobile helmet on the tractor when he plowed. He looked like one of those guys in the super modified tractor pulls that wear helmets. Sorry, no picture, didn't have my camera out this morning.

But with all this snow the trails are still open! Club ride on Sunday! Not every year we snowmobile into March!

Tomorrow night is the play. Will let you know how it was..............

5 calves!!!!!

Yes, that's right, 5 calves born in less than 24 hours is a bit much. We haven't had a calf born since Feb. 4 so I knew I was probably in for it. It was like the calm before the storm. Mark that works for us told me last week I was going to have 5 born in one day too! I told him he just better keep his mouth shut from now on! Sunday morning we got to the barn and our little heifer (only 18 mos. old, oops) was having a calf. So we helped her deliver it and she had a little worthless bull. OK all was good. This was about 6:30-7 a.m. Then around 11-11:30 a cow had a nice heifer calf. OK all is still good. We get to the barn that night and a cow had twins! A bull and a heifer, worthless and worthlesser. For you non-farmers a heifer that is a twin with a bull is called a free marten and usually never gets pregnant, there is a 3% chance. Although we have had 2 free martens have calves so there is hope. Anyway back to the story, OK all is now not so good. We are out of room for calves and cows. The next morning I get to the barn and start feeding the calves outside and here is a newborn calf on a snow pile. Yes he was alive and shivering. Must have been less than an hour old. All is worse as we are really out of room now! But with quick thinking I rearranged about 7 calves and almost have room. The twins are still together in one little pen. I have 2 calves drinking from a pail already! They are all fine.

Today we took a quick snowmobile ride to Angelica for lunch and then to Pulaski, Green Valley, Gillett and Pulcifer and home. The plowed field hilltops needed a little snow but it wasn't too bad considering the it is the end of February.

I won a pair of tickets to see "Guys on Ice" Saturday at Oconto Falls high school. I won through Oconto Electric. It's about time we get something from them with the cost of the electric bill. Jerry didn't want to go until I told him the tickets were $30 each and it is a comedy. So we're going! I haven't been to a play in years. I can't even remember the last time.

Jesse was lucky too, he won a $100 on a gun raffle.

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!!!!

This looks so comical in the barn. We need a laugh out there sometimes. This is a heifer in the maternity pen. She just can't wait for her silage.

These last couple of days have just been nuts! It has been run, run, run. Got taxes done then had to rush home (but needed a drink at Spirits of Gillett first, yes it was bad) and do chores. Then Thursday did chores, and then go to Appleton Fleet Farm for the big farm sale then rush home to do chores then down to the Lodge to go over the fishing derby last Saturday. Then Friday, do chores then go pick up our meat at Gillett Meats. Then drop off meat at Jerry's parents then sort through ours and take half to Cecil to store then put the rest in the freezer and it didn't fit! Then go feed calves so we could go out with Jim & Bonnie for fish. Yes, we had milking off Friday night. Went to South Chase the fish was good and we had alot to eat. Had to take some home. Today go do chores then take the extra meat that didn't fit in my freezer to my Mom's then off to Shawano for grocery shopping and a few other errands. Now make supper and then do chores again. Tomorrow is a birthday party for Jerry's cousins girl, Rachel. So I have to wrap a present and make a dish tonight too!

Run, run, run.............

Yesterday not lucky for Jesse!

It was a lucky day for me but not Jesse. He smashed his index finger on his right hand in his car door. He said it is throbbing. It is twice as big as his middle finger and rather purple/black. He needed help dressing himself this morning. He went to work but I don't know what he is going to do there. I sent him a bottle of Advil along. Good thing they are slow at work so if he can't work he can go home.

Will be taking my Mom to a funeral in Plymouth today. Her cousin died. She doesn't have much close relation left so I thought she should go and then she could see some other cousins. Hope we don't run into snow on the way home.

Bye now................

My lucky day!

Hi all,

Well I didn't win a darn thing at the fishing derby and neither did Jerry. I picked out names of other club members more than once for them to win a prize but when they did the drawing did anyone pick my name? NOOOOOOOOOOOO! But today my luck turned. I went to the new Kwik Trip, as this week is their grand opening. They had free 1 gallon of milk, free cappuccino, free 1 lb. of potatoes, free newspaper, etc. When I walked in I saw there was quit a line of people at the first check out. By the time I got to the front to check out the first check out was empty and no cashier so I got in line for the second check out. I thought I better pick up a paper to check out and not just grab it on the way out even if it was free. So I walked over to the newspapers which are against the wall by the first check out. I found 4-$20 bills laying on the floor. Yes, $80! My first thought was, is this a test, where are the cameras? So I stuck it in my pocket. Paid for my merchandise with different money and walked out:) There was no one near this money. Really no one was anywhere close to this register that I could even ask if they dropped it. I know most big stores just keep the money if you hand it in so that's why I didn't. I felt a little bad at first but I got over it in a hurry.

We took my Mom to the Golden Corral for her birthday. The food is always good there and alot to choose from. Oh yes, my Mom won a bottle of tequila with a worm in it from the derby. She said she never drank tequila in her life. She didn't like the worm in it so she gave it to Jerry.

That's all today................

My Mom is 92!

Happy Birthday Mom! Yep, she's 92 years young today on Friday the 13th. After 92 years I think she has had a few birthdays on Friday the 13th. I know she told me she turned 13 on Friday the 13th. We are going to take her out to eat on Sunday. Won't have time to get to see her today as I work all day and have to help with derby prizes tonight and tomorrow is the fishing derby. Sorry Mom you just have to wait a few days. Look I blogged 3 days in a row! That's cuz it's new and fun. Wait till this summer it will probably once every 3 weeks if I'm lucky!

I'm up and can't sleep

I woke up at 4:30 a.m. and have a headache and a pain in my shoulder blade and don't know why. So I might as well get up and do something. Soon I will go out and feed calves and then off to my other job. So Brett Favre retires again. I wish him well and will miss him on the field. Tonight I have Women of Faith at church. I guess I have to go as I am the secretary. This weekend is the Sportsmen's club fishing derby. Tomorrow night we have to sort out the prizes for the derby at the Lodge. My alarm is about to go off, so it's time to start a new day..............

I hope I have time for this!

Hi!

This is my first blog ever. Never thought I would do this. I hope to blog once a week or so. I'm kinda busy at times so we'll see how it goes. I'm new at this so my blog might not be very stylish at first. Looks like snowmobile season is over already:( It has been a hard winter on the farm so it is a nice relief for farmers.

That is all for today. More to come............
